What is a quaalude

A sedative-snorting drug of the quinazolinone group. It was used in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a sleeping pill as a “safe” substitute for barbiturates.

Later it was withdrawn from commerce because of high risk of abuse, formation of addiction and development of addiction. At present in most countries of the world it is equated to drugs and prohibited for production, storage and use.
