How did Spencer Webb die

Spencer Webb, Tight End Oregon Ducks, died at age 22.

Oregon Ducks tight end Spencer Webb died in a diving accident less than a mile from Eugene, where the university is located, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The 22-year-old Sacramento native reportedly died after hitting his head in an accident while diving off a cliff west of Triangle Lake in Lane County.

Webb was starting his five-year junior season this fall and was expected to be a starter.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on Facebook Wednesday saying authorities “responded to a landslide near west of Triangle Lake at about 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report of an injured man.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 22-year-old man vacationing in the area had fallen and hit his head. Passersby and medics who arrived were unable to resuscitate him. Lane County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue personnel helped bring him back to the roadway as he was about 100 yards down a steep trail,” the statement said.

“There is no evidence of foul play and his death appears to be accidental. The victim’s name is currently withheld pending notification of next of kin.”

The cause of death had not been announced or confirmed as of Thursday morning, when several Oregon coaches and Players confirmed the news on social media.

“Every moment of the day is so full of life,” Oregon soccer coach Dan Lanning tweeted. “Spencer will miss your smile and energy. I love you!”

As of Thursday morning, the team had yet to release a statement.

Webb had 31 catches for 296 yards and four touchdowns in 29 games with the Ducks – 13 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown in 2021.
